Current Fave Song
I wanna call the stars
Down from the sky
I wanna live a day
That never dies
I wanna change the world
Only for you
All the impossible
I wanna do
I wanna hold you close
Under the rain
I wanna kiss your smile
And feel the pain
I know what's beautiful
Looking at you
In a world of lies
You are the truth
And baby
Everytime you touch me
I become a hero
I'll make you safe
No matter where you are
And bring you
Everything you ask for
Nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
When you tell me that you love me
I wanna make you see
Just what I was
Show you the loneliness
And what it does
You walked into my life
To stop my tears
Everything's easy now
I have you here
And baby
Everytime you touch me
I become a hero
I'll make you safe
No matter where you are
And bring you
Everything you ask for
Nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
When you tell me that you love me
In a world without you
I would always hunger
All I need is your love
To make me stronger
And baby
Everytime you touch me
I become a hero
I'll make you safe
No matter where you are
And bring you
Everything you ask for
Nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
When you tell me that you love me
You love me
When you tell me that you love me

What is it that makes people care about other people? I can't quite figure it out. I've known some people almost all my life, yet I can't really work myself up when they're sick, or someone passes away. Sure, there is a twinge of "Oh, poor thing", but nothing more than that.
But then, there are some people I have only recently known who can make me want to go to any lengths for them. Owh. Shocking. I guess it isn't the length of time you know someone that makes you friends. Its the amount you share and how much you're willing to give of yourself. Yeah.
I've got a crick in my neck. Help. Why oh why do I get aches and pains like a grand old lady? It's just not natural, I tell ye! First it was my lower back (thanks to that sorry excuse of a trampoline daddy got.. pah!), then my ankle, now my neck. Hey, isn't that a lot of injuries for a couch potato? Seriously, how strenuous can lying in bed be?
Aussie trip in 2 days! Yeeeeha! Can't wait, can't wait, can't WAIT! :D I sound like the world's biggest jakun right now, but who cares? I'm leaving Malaysia behind for once in 18 years and it feels bloody good!
Ow. And I must have a cavity or something coz the eclair I just ate nearly killed my teeth. Sigh. Better go ask dad.
I'll keep y'all posted bout Australia.

Me = Maths Teacher? Joke!
I can't help but pity the guy, though. With the prospect of failing looming overhead.. It can't be easy on the ego. But knowing him, he'll say it doesn't bother him and shrug it off. Hm. Wonder how long he can keep doing that.
Anyway. It was Add Maths today. Interestingly, he's gone for most of his tuition classes, but true to Fernandez form, hasn't done an iota of work since whatever class he learned a particular topic. Yeeha. I just love how younger siblings follow in your footsteps.
The only difference between him and me is this - he has an older sibling to help him out. In whatever small way she can. Haha. Hey, I do, okay? And for the record, I don't confuse him. At least, I think I don't. He seems to get it, though, so that means I'm doing something right. Right?
Oh lordy. That aside, I surprise myself sometimes. You'd think with how terrible my study techniques were last year, that I'd have forgotten everything. Apparently not. I can still remember as far back as fungsi. Which is a very good thing. Funny, though. The penyempurnaan kuasa dua I did was the right technique, but wrong answer. I'm still trying to figure that one out...
Ah hell. Ju must be laughing her brains out by now. Elaine. Trying to figure out Add Maths. For her baby brother. MUAHAHAHAHA. Hmph.
Oh well. At least I'm getting some satisfaction out of it. Now I know that I'm not a complete hopeless case at all. But that makes me a sad case. Sigh.
I am never gonna be a normal kid. Blah.
'Kitos!
Within two days, I've had more than 30 mosquito bites - and that's just on my right arm! 20 or more of which are from the elbow above. Blah! Let's not take into account my left arm, my legs, my FACE - good Lord, the latter alone is enough to make me cringe. I get pimples once a month. The rest of the time, the only spots on my face are mozzie bites. Unfortunately, those look like zits. Sigh.
Doesn't help too, that I'm super allergic to mosquito bites. Once bitten, I'm scarred for life. Hell, even til now I have scars left over from childhood. Not to mention the new ones on top of it all. It's no wonder the new people I meet don't have anything better to ask than "You got chicken pox ah?" Um, hello? If I had chicken pox, what the hell do you think I'm doing wondering the street? *rolls eyes*
Ah well. I've had 18 years to get used to it. And I am. I used to hate my skin, now I don't give a damn. What I am sick of, though, is people asking stupid questions. And being stupid about it at the same time. If I really DID have chicken pox, about 3/4 of the people who've asked me that would've been sick in bed not long after. LOL! You do NOT hang around someone if you think he/she has chicken pox, people. Not a good idea at all, no no no! *shakes head ala Duckie*
You know what would be a revolutionary scientific discovery worthy of even the Nobel prize? A way to exterminate all mosquitoes - permanently. At least from my room.
Right. Til that happens, I'll just have to go back to catching mosquitoes the old-fashioned way - with my bare hands. Shieldtox and whatnots don't work. Pah.
It's the mosquito dinnertime right about now. I guess I'll go accomodate my guests. Sigh. Bye.

Books, Boxes and Bits
Anyway. The packing's taking ages. I have a LOT more things than I thought. A lot of which I haven't needed/used since primary school (most of which are the stickers and stuff that we ordered from catalogues). I guess you could call me a hoarder. I think I still have some hair clips that are more than 10 years old! Eeks.
That's not the scariest part though. I have, to date, filled 5 big boxes with books. And the books are all squashed up so tightly together, I'm seriously wondering how on earth I'm going to manage getting them out.
To top that off, I have one more shelf of books to pack up. Somebody pinch me. I had absolutely NO idea that I had that many books. Well, I knew I had quite a few, but man! This is seriously too scary. And I can't bring myself to get rid of a single one. Sigh. Oh well. I'll look at it as the first step to my future library. Even if the packing, unpacking and lugging the boxes around is a pain in the butt.
Next I have to pack up all the CDs, bits and pieces that I've got from birthdays, etc. over the years. Sigh. Now that's another headache. Coz most of them are breakable. And I've gotta sit down and wrap 'em up. Whoopee. Moving house is da BOMB. Trust me.
Oh and let's not forget the CLOTHES. Haha. Haha. It's a damn good job I like arranging and organizing stuff. Otherwise I'd be having a nervous breakdown by now. I have such a limited time frame since school starts next week AND I'm going to Australia (whoopee!) next Friday for 18 days. Yep, and when I get back it's time house-cleaning time. Yeeeeeha. Hmph.
Oh well. At least it's something to look forward to. I'm hoping a little more freedom is the result of this madness. If it is, I'll consider it all worth it *winks*

My (Not So) Little Brother
Let's talk about.. My brother. Sir David Paul Fernandez. Master crapper. Unbeaten boozer. Super irritant. Guitar maestro. Protector extraordinaire. Laziness defined. And all around typical Malayalee male, i.e. thinks he's right all the time. Lol.
The fact that he's bigger than me now doesn't help either. Sigh.
Don't get me wrong, I love my baby brother to bits. So much so that I have a VERY hard time saying no to him. And he knows it, too. Unfortunately for me. I usually end up doing precisely what he wants me to do - after I kick up a token fuss, of course. The dude has me twisted around his little finger all right.
What makes it particularly difficult is the boy is intelligent. And good looking. And talented. And he knows it. And is not afraid to let you know that he knows it. He's so analytical with every situation that I sometimes forget he's human. Then he surprises me and gets hurt about something. But then, I never know if he really IS hurt or not. Gah. Bloody confusing!
One good thing about my baby bro - he's got a protective streak. I remember once he wouldn't even let me go get an ice cream by myself. Weeha. I'd be tempted to call him an MCP (male chauvinist pig), but that'd be stating the obvious. There really is no denying who he thinks is the smarter, more intelligent, brainier, more sensible, better sex *rolls eyes*
Oooh! I get so mad at him sometimes with his "better than thou" attitude. But heaven help me if I'm able to resist the begging he does when he wants something. "Che.. please la che. I don't know how to do!" or "Che.. You're better than me at this la. Do for me la, che.. Pleeassee?" And he'll do the whole wide-eyed, innocent thing. And me being the big ol' softie that I am, will do the Master's every bidding. Sigh. I only have myself to blame, I guess.
But when it comes down to it, I don't know what I'd do without him, irritating pest or not. I sometimes want to strangle him, but I wouldn't trade him in for anything in the world!
Well.. except maybe a golden retriever. HAHA. Ok. Not funny. I'll end now. Goodnight.

The Wonderful World of Disney
Anyway. These are the titles I have so far, and I plan to get more *grins wickedly* I indulge myself.
1. Beauty and the Beast
2. Aladdin
3. The Lion King
4. Snow White
5. The Sleeping Beauty
6. Dumbo
7. Bambi
8. Hercules
9. The Little Mermaid 2
9. The Land Before Time <-- Not Disney, but I file it in the same category for sheer brilliance :P
I can't wait for the orginal versions of Cinderella and the Little Mermaid come out. Now all they have are the sequels :( These are the titles I have yet to get and MUST have:
1. Pocahontas
2. Peter Pan
3. Cinderella
4. The Little Mermaid
5. Pinocchio
6. Alice In Wonderland
7. Lilo and Stitch
8. Mulan
9. Finding Nemo
10. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
That's all I can recall right now. If I'm missing anything out (I don't count the Emperor's New Groove or whatever Disney worth watching.. pah), feel free to remind me.
Disney.. Disney.. Disney.. Aahh... *sighs dreamily*
My Darlin' Cousins...
Nothing's the same anymore. Oh, we ARE still really close, but growing up sort of drags you apart, whether you want it to or not. We spent most of our time together up til last year, then suddenly everyone had a huge amount of things dumped on their plates, and our meet-ups became even less, and less, and less...
Ach. You know I'm into sentimentalism, but in this case I don't care. I miss all those jokers. Just looking at them pics reminded me of how much fun we used to have together, and how much we've been through.
Carolling (terrorisng older youth leaders lol!), the "paint and thinner" incident, the flying chewing gum and the scissors, various love interests (most of whom were mine *rolls eyes*), the DEDS "singing group", our Westlife craze, sleepovers, TV thieving, the Jetty, the falling mattress ride... Ah. Those were the days!
One thing that really stands out in my mind, though, is how supportive they all were of Sharm, Steph, Dave and I when we were in our singing craze phase. Oh, it was foolishness, but we really took ourselves seriously at the time... And I'm forever grateful to them for not laughing in our faces! :D
Funnily enough, they still support us now. Even though we've come to our senses and don't torture anyone now. Haha. But you know what? I think we coulda been good if we'd had the patience to practise and not stop every 10 minutes to chat for another 2 hours. Ah well.
I guess you could say we're closer than most brothers and sisters, and it's something I'll never give up. Hopefully this taste of separation will help us make sure we don't pass up chances to be together... Because what we have is VERY special, I don't think many other cousins have even half of what we have together.
I'll quit being mushy now, but Sharm, Steph, Yin, Ting, Sheryll, Jono and Fred... Thanks guys! You've been pretty much amazing all these years and you're one part of my life that I will NEVER give up without a fight! Love y'all so so so much!
Ahem. Okay. Mushiness over and done with. Bye! :P

writingwritingwritingwri...
Oooh you have no idea how my fingers itched to get on the keyboard. Bleargh. Unfortunately for me, these literary urges come at extremely inconvenient times - mainly VERY early in the morning when my parents are fast asleep and the only way for me to get to the computer is by breaking down their door and enduring their wrath. Which, incidentally, would be a permanent ban from ever going within 30 feet of the dratted thing.
Funny thing is, I usually have no clue what I want to write about. All I know is, I just want to write. Over the years I've written some pretty weirded out stuff. Some of which ended up in our ill-fated school mag (they were desperate enough to actually print my mindless blabberings, sigh). Oh well. Most of the more strange ramblings have never been seen by another human eye, and I intend to keep it that way.
But if I'm famous when I die, you guys have permission to publish whatever nonsense you can find as "works of an eccentric genius". Muahahaha. Hm.
Ack. Gotta stop now. S'late. Mum's gonna get up and 'ave mah 'ead soon. And Queer Eye's on. Hang on, Carson! I'm coming!
Bye all.

Personality Test
Anyway, I just took the Jung Typology test at http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp and this was the result:
Your Type is ISFJ
Introverted - Sensing - Feeling - Judging
Strength of the preferences %
44 - 1 - 75 - 33
Qualitative analysis of your type formula You are:
- moderately expressed introvert
- slightly expressed sensing personality
- distinctively expressed feeling personality
- moderately expressed judging personality
One sentence from the ISFJ description (http://typelogic.com/isfj.html) stuck out like a sore thumb:
Admittedly, the problem is sometimes aggravated by the ISFJs themselves; for instance, they are notoriously bad at delegating ("If you want it done right, do it yourself").
Did the quote in the bracket look awfully familiar to anybody?? *wide-eyed*
My type is also the Protector Guardian in the Keirsey Temperament sorter. Take a look, if you like: http://keirsey.com/personality/sjif.html.
If you read even part of it, tell me if you guys think it's accurate :P

School's Startin'!
Breathe, girl, breathe!
I know I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for school to start, but I was hoping they'd give us at least a wee bit more than 12 days to get ourselves focused and ready to start school. After 5 months, mind. It's gonna be a heck of a culture shock to have wake up early, line up, sit in the blazing classroom, do homework....
I am not helping myself here :(
Okay okay.. think about the good part. No more moping around doing nothing. No more eating too much because there's nothing else to do. No more being "friendless". No more going online whenever I want. No more sleeping late.
ARGH! It's no use! *sighs miserably* I'm not ready!!! Okay, so I should have been. It's my fault, really. I've become so lazy that the thought of a little discipline sends me running in the other direction. Sigh.
But at least I'll quit complaining that I'm bored. I suppose that's a good thing, hey? :) I'll get to vary my daily gripings a little *rofl* I'm the world's biggest whiner, I think. They should have a prize for that. Haha.
Hey you know what? I actually feel a lot better now! Writing IS therapeutic! Whoopee! :D Or else it's sent me right to the other end of the insanity spectrum - the overly happy side :D
Don't you just LOVE psycho-logy? "Yup yup yup, I do, I do!" - Duckie, The Land Before Time. <-- This is officially my favourite quote of all time!
I am excited, though. I mean, it'll be a different experience for me. I'm going to be starting all over again - I won't know a single person at whichever school I'm going to since I'm transfering from Klang to PJ. Man. I better start practising my "unscary" look in the mirror. Otherwise I'll be given a pretty wide berth, I think :) Not that I mind... Haha. Oh well.
Aah. So here's to school and an all new beginning. And I hereby resolve to work my butt off. Everyone! You're charged with forcing me (by any means) to stick to this resolution. On pain of .. my cooking!.. shall you not carry out that duty! (Was that sentence even correct? *scratches head*)
Ah well. G'night.

All Hail The (Non) Chef!
Wouldn't it be lovely to say that I'd gotten that burn from say, baking a cake or having scalding oil splash on me while I'm making some fancy, funny-sounding dish. But me, being the hopeless case I am, burnt my finger in the stupidest way possible - getting a slice of bread out of the toaster. Yup, that's right. Super cook I am too.
It's like having a battle scar, but that battle was between two little kids playing soldiers in the playground. PAH. I'm pathetic.
Nevermind.. I shall dream of being a master chef someday. Right now, though, the TV calls. So I'll leave you with thoughts of what a sad case I am. Good day.

Head In The Clouds? Maybe.
"Why are you so fussy?" "You should lower your standards la." "He's okay what. What's wrong with him?"
I'm sure it ain't hard to figure out what they're talking about. Especially since I constantly gripe about it. Hehe. Whatever it is, I'm incapable of liking someone just because they really like me. And though I might seem like the world's biggest fussy pot, I truly don't mean to be.
Let's look at it this way: For all my spoutings about "the perfect guy", what I really mean to say is, think jigsaw puzzle. You want a piece that will fit perfectly, right? Not something that looks the size and shape but yet isn't the correct piece. That's what I really want in a guy. And it isn't a feeling that I can simply shake off. It's part of my make up - I can't settle for anything less than that.
Another thing - loving someone more than they love you is not the best scenario. But having someone love you more than you love them isn't any better. Here's the way I figure it - in both cases, things like jealousy, discontentment, possessiveness are likely to crop up. However if you can find someone who's one on the same level, there's less likelihood of that happening because you couldn't imagine ever being with anyone else - and neither could he.
Okay, so I'm an incurable romantic. I admit that. I still think a relationship without that spark, that little bit of romance, that feeling of rightness.. isn't complete. I know there are a billion other things - practical things - that come into play, but I figure if you have that kind of certainty, you can work anything out in time.
We'll just say what I'm looking for is really "the other half". As in the right one to make a whole. Is that too much to ask?
I thought not.

I Like!
Another thing: one of the best feelings in the world is being able to answer a Maths question correctly (that is, if you're as hopeless at Maths as I am la :P). So far today I managed to answer almost all questions pretty much on the dot, so I'm ecstatic! All right. So I sound like a pathetic goose. When it comes to Maths, though, I couldn't care less :)
I promised a positive list today, so here are the "likes" part of things:
- The Fab 5 - I love watching Queer Eye! Not only are those 5 super talented, their sense of humour is FANTASTIC! :D Plus I love watching the transformations - not so much of the guy than the place he lives. Thom is excellent, excellent, EXCELLENT!
- Chilli tuna and rice - Best eaten when watching TV at night. I'm serious! Haha! It's the easiest nice meal to make (even I can't screw it up! :P) Cook rice (if there aren't any leftovers from the day), open can, mix it all up and EAT! Simple and delicious. Mmmmm.
- Musicals - Gorgeous music, soaring vocals, fantastic harmonies - what more could I ask for? Oh, and the melodies are all extremely feel-good, so... *sighs dreamily*
- Old older guys - I swear, everyone thinks I'm nuts but the older the guy, the more attractive he becomes (IMHO la). As long as he's younger than my parents, he's fair game. *grins wickedly*
- Big bookstores - This one's self-explanatory. For the un-informed, I'm a bookworm. Make that Queen of All Bookworms. There you go.
- Performances - Producing and directing performances, that is. I usually get frustrated out of my mind but I love it anyway. And seeing the product of the hard work is payment enough :) [I miss the choir so bad!!!! :(]
- Coffee - With the amount I drink I won't be surprised if the blood in my body has been replaced by coffee. My daily intake of caffeine, if one were to check, would probably be waaay higher than is safe :P
- Fraser's Hill - Yep, folks. I hated it there when I was younger (nothing to do lol), but now I'm in love with it. It's probably the most peaceful place I've ever been to, and if I were older I'd be there as often as possible, just lepaking. Sigh. So nice. I feel like going there now. Sigh again.
- Famous Amos cookies - Is there anything more sinful yet delightful than this? Oooh bliss!
- Family functions - I have an awesome bunch of cousins. I always hate it when I miss a chance to be with them. They're like the siblings I always wanted but never had (not that David isn't enough of a handful already... lol). Fact: I haven't seen them in a month and I miss 'em so much already! *sniffles*
Blah. Those were topmost in my mind, anyhow. If given a choice, I'd be listing down a whole bunch of BOOKS. But I don't suppose you want to know. At least, a lot less than you want to know about them things up there. Hehe. Oh well. Til next time.

Pet Hates
- Smokers - I think the whole world and his brother knows I hate people smoking. It isn't just that it's dangerous; they never think about the people standing around them. I especially hate it when the smoke is blowing directly in your face but they still don't give a damn. Argh.
- Fake accents - What's with that? If it's not natural, why bother? It just gets annoying after some time. And hard on the ears.
- "Fuck"ers - This isn't what it looks like. Lol. It's people who say fuck every two sentences. I'm like, is that necessary?
- Huge signatures - When in forums, a huge signature can be SO annoying! Scrolling down, all you can see is pictures and hardly any text. Plus it limits the number of posts per page and the threads get longer and longer and longer...
- Crazy texters - wHy In thE wOrLd dO pEoPle LiKe tO tYpE lIke ThiS? tAkeS mOre tImE aNd iS haRdeR tO rEaD tOo. Ugh.
- Perverts - Online or on the street. The former - NO I don't want your number, nor do I want to have sex with you. Is that so hard to understand? The latter - Put those whistling skills to good use and go join pest control and start catching rats. Shouldn't be too difficult since you sound like them.
- Road nuts - Why why WHY do people drive like they're on a racing car track and not on a public highway? What's with the weaving in between cars? Argh! If I weren't such a nice person, I'd say it served them right if they met with an accident. So there. (Lol.)
- Irresponsibility - I guess this speaks for itself. Especially when other people are involved. Do your part and if you think you can't, back out EARLY. Doing anything else is just being completely unfair to the other people involved.
- Scaredy- cat friends - Friends who don't say it like it is. If you care about your friend, you'd tell them what they NEED to hear not what they want to hear. Even if they don't listen, you gotta do your part. The rest is up to them. Otherwise don't call yourself a friend - it's meaningless. (I'm lucky. My friends are all the "What the heck are you doing, Elaine?!! STOP IT!" kind. Hehe.)
- Fish, coriander, celery - Do I need to explain this one? I couldn't even if I wanted to. Something about these food just irk me and it's a very rare occasion when I voluntarily eat anything with those 3 in it.
Had enough? I suppose so. I'll write something more positive tomorrow :)

SUPERGRAN!
Let's start from the beginning (so to speak). In 1989, Mrs. Olive Frances Fernandez was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. In other words, cancer. Doctors gave her 2 weeks max to live. My dad and his friends prayed over her and took her for a HUGE healing rally and before you know it, she's back on her feet and walking around like it never happened. Funnily enough, the doctors who diagnosed her died a few years later.
Over the past 16 years she's had a mild heart attack, a ruptured appendix, more falls than is healthy for an above-70 year old and water in the lungs. And every time we expect her to die, she's back on her feet. The amount of times we've been prepared for the "inevitable" can fill a book! Every year it's, "Never mind la.. poor thing. She hasn't got long left" and she gives all a kick in the head and lives another 5 years :P She's AMAZING, I tell you!
And now at a grand old age of 91, she's still cooking her own meals, going to the saloon at least twice a week to do her hair, writing dozens of letters a week to relatives in God knows where and playing Scrabble. Yup, and beating me at it too. *looks shame faced* I know, I know.. I'm pathetic. I have won once or twice, but normally she helps me out. Sigh. Double dose of patheticness.
But come to think about it, I'm not surprised God's given her such a great level of energy and alertness at this age. It's fantastic to watch her. She prays for hours a day, and she never worries about anything. Talk about total surrender :) But I guess no one can understand the power of God better than she can. She's been a recipient of it more times than I can count.
Here's to Super Grandmother! May thy faith never grow less! (Highly doubtful it will anyway :P)

So what do I write about? I don't have a clue. All I know is, if I don't write, something inside me is going to break through the restraints. Something... unpleasant. It's nothing specific that happened, just an accumulation of things over a period of time that has never seemed to let up.
I don't usually sound this out of it, but this time I really am. There are things that are impossible to share with ANYONE, and those are the things that kill you. Whack you left, right, center and all you can do is pray that you'll be able to get back up.
I probably will get over this as I usually do, but I don't know how much longer I can take it if these.. things.. continue. I might end up doing or saying something that I regret or at the very least hurt someone I have no intention of.
But one thing really gets to me. I don't understand how some people can be such hypocrites. It's like, do what you say and try to make others do! Why bother to say it when you yourself don't live by it? It's just one more pain in the ass that I could do without.

Crab Island
Okay, I better start this in chronological order (sort of la, k :P). Yesterday, Eric (one of the guys I met at the Kuching retreat) asked if I would join him and a few friends from Lifeline (young adult group in SFX and CKK) for lunch in Pulau Ketam. (Boy, that was a lot of brackets.)
Anyway. I obviously agreed (and so, surprisingly, did my dad.. must be the church connection.. hm..) so today, I tagged along with him and 3 others - Ivan, Alvin and Pearl (all of whom, I might add, are more than 5 years my seniors). (I'm still using a lot of brackets.)
Naturally, I was at first wondering what was wrong with my nonexistent brain, agreeing to go out with a guy I barely know and people I'd never even met. But hey! Pleasant surprise - all 4 of them were really cool. For adults, that is. Haha. Seriously, they made me feel comfortable. Which is no easy feat, considering the way I am with people I don't know.
A little about ol' Crab Island though. In fact, it can be summed up in one word: MUD. That's right. You never walk on solid ground because the whole island is made of mud, mud and more mud. Planked walkways are used all the way. We saw loads of little crabs scurrying around, cone shaped shells, and a gigantic mud skipper.
Lunch was seafood. Which wasn't too bad - Shammy's restaurant (Klang Seafood) has spoiled me la. Always compare other places to it :P But it was pretty good, even in comparison. Hehe.
It came up to about 20 bucks per person. And Eric payed for me. He insisted that he's working and I'm not. And he says treat him when I start working. Bloody hell. That's at least 7 years away! Lol! I so owe him a treat now, I don't care. Elaine and her "guys shouldn't pay for her" policy, y'know. I'm a feminist like that. HAHA.
All said, I'm glad I went. Not so much coz it gave me an opportunity to get the hell out of the house, but the people I met were awesome. The kind that you just know you'd love to have as friends.
I'm looking forward to joining Lifeline now, although I don't know if I'll ever think of going to Pulau Ketam again anytime soon. I'm sticking to good ol' Pandamaran for now :)

Cheesy Wheesy
I don't understand how people can eat more than 2 slices of stuffed crust pizza. Don't get me wrong, I love cheese, but somehow after the 2nd and a half slice, my throat refuses to even let another bite slip through. It's so... jelakish! *shudders*
I suppose it's all my fault for attempting to go beyond 2 slices. And I almost succeeded, mind. Hey, I was hungry! (Hah to all you people who think I don't eat coz I'm on a diet. Elaine and diet don't belong in the same sentence unless joined by "doesn't". So there.) I managed 3 and a 9/10ths before i had to give up. Personal record! Woohoo! Haha.
Knowing me, though, I'll never learn my lesson, no matter how many times I feel like puking after eating stuffed crust pizza. It's the bane of my life, not learning my lessons. Sigh. Next time anyone sees me trying to order a stuffed crust pizza, shove your hand down my mouth, please. Just to remind me of what it feels like to wanna throw up.
Hehe. Did I just gross you out? YES! Smackin' people! See y'all!
*skips and dances away* <-- This should be impossible since I'm currently more stuffed than that mangy ol' crust, but whaddaheck. Heehee.
Is Me Me?
Okay, so I'll admit that I'm a crazy, complicated goop of a girl. I can make a complete fool out of myself when I'm comfortable, as my friends will very well testify. But when I'm not, people mistake being uncomfortable for aloofness. What makes me uncomfortable around people I don't know? Honestly? I don't know.
But you know what? It's when I approach people that they realize I'm not half as snobbish as I look. Problem with that is, I can't be approaching all the people who are "scared"
of me. Half the time I don't KNOW that they're scared of me until I approach them and they tell me somewhere down the line.
I smile at anyone I come into eye contact with, but I guess that still isn't enough. I have a permanent scary look on my face, hey. Sigh.
It would be nice to be known as the nutter I really am. But how do I be a nutter when people don't dare to get close enough to find that out? Hell, even saying hello to me is a chore for some. Why is that? Am I really that much of a freaky person? Am I?
I'm pretty tired of the conflicting reports. I don't know which is which anymore, but to my thinking I respond in pretty much the same way to any situation. Maybe I'm wrong. I need help, people! How do I get away from image of the scary bitch I portray and let people see the crazy nut that lurks inside my brain?
Or maybe they'd better not see that part. I can't decide which is scarier. Lol.

Stress-free!
There's a couple of good things that've come out of me having such a long holiday. Mainly that I don't get a migraine every two weeks now. Yeeehaaa! That's partly due to the fact that I'm pretty much stress-free (except when I wake up in the morning and mum is yelling at me to do this and that.. lol). Come to think of it, that's pretty much all she says to me these days. "Che.. put back the clothes" or "Che, keep the dishes back"... and the list goes on. But that's probably a lot less stressful than say, debating about bananas *grins at Ju Li*
Also, I don't see much sun and I'm in my air con room like, 24/7 when I can help it (my mum's is about to murder me over the bill) so the heat doesn't get to my head. Not like in school when we had to walk around in smouldering temperatures in blazers with lining. If that isn't a recipe for a migraine, I don't know what is.
Plus, I get to do a lot of reading. Which may not be so good since my eyes have decided that I've been overworking them. Sigh. But I refuse to give in! Not when I have the last two books available of the Shannara series in my possession! I will not admit defeat!
As you can see I've started rambling. So I'll now shut up. Happy being stressed out, folks! Sooner or later I'll join your fold, not to worry!

Ghost of Crush-Hell Past
Although, in my defense, we were told that the ghost wasn't there. Only when we entered said place did we find out that we had gotten the facts wrong and the ghost WAS there. The waitress (?) had meant that the FATHER of the ghost wasn't there. Bah.
Oh lordy! Was I in hot soup! So I sat with my back towards the waiters and sure enough, he didn't recognize us... Until my mum called him over. Oh heavens! Funny thing was, he didn't recognize HER, until he looked up and saw me and he was like, "Oh! You I remember!" I still can't quite figure out whether that's a good or bad thing.
It was an extremely odd night, to say the least. To the un-informed, said ghost is the guy I had a massive crush on 8 years ago. For the record, I was 10 and he was 16. Hilarious scenario? Trying topping it with the fact that he (and everyone who knew us both) was aware of it. Disaster in the making - for me, at least.
But should pity me a bit la... 10 year old kid with teenage hormones. How to handle la? Besides, he was the only available guy to have a crush on (as in not my age .. :P). Anyway, justifications aside, I really made a fool of myself at the time. Gah.
Now, though, he looked more uncomfortable than I felt! It's odd, really. But then again, if I were him, I wouldn't exactly relish the thought of seeing me again. Hehe. If that made any sense. Unwanted attention = the worst kind of attention. Poor guy. I don't blame him at all for anything that he said or did at the time. I probably would have done worse, roles reversed.
The experience was interesting for what it was. I now know that I can look directly at him without turning into a ripe tomato. I guess the 8 years of "experience" has made me able to handle awkward guy situations. Haha. It could also be due to the fact that he doesn't intimidate me anymore. Also that the girly crush has flown off somewhere far away too.
I also got a sort-of invitation to "bring your mum for lunch here sometime".
Maybe I might just take him up on that offer. Just for kicks. Hehe.

Fantasy Fix
It's all your fault! *sniffles* All Ju Li's fault. Hmph. Poor Elaine is suffering. *sobs*.
And I bet she has no idea what she's responsible for. Right, Ju? HAHA. Hmph. Do you want to know? DO YOU?
She told me about SHANNARA! Yes, that's right. And now I'm superly-duperly addicted to it. Worse, I've finished every single book in my possesion. In a grand total of... 6 Days! (There were 10 books that I had). Augh! Somebody help poor Elaine. *sniffles again*
Honestly, though, I've read almost every other genre of book. So now I'm in my fantasy phase. It all started with Maggie Furey's 4 book series - The Artefacts of Power. (They call a 3 book series a trilogy. What's a 4 book series? A quadrology? Quadrilogy? Help!)
Now, I'm a Shannara addict without a fix. I actually re-read the only Wheel of Time (Robert Jordan) book I have to keep the craving at bay. BAH! Now I've run out of fantasy books and I don't know what I'm gonna do :(
Poor Elaine.
Donations anyone?
[I'll just be a kind soul and give you guys this link. If you like fantasy (or even if you don't :P), check it out.

Mathsy!
The reason?
I started Form 6 Maths tuition today!
Yes, you read right. Maths tuition. And happiness. And YES I haven't flipped. Well, not the full 180 degrees, at least. Do you want to know why I'm so happy?
Because it's a CHANGE IN THE BLOODY ROUTINE! *calms self down*
Okay, phew. Really, 4 months of doing nothing but read, watch TV and surf the net aimlessly is more than enough to scramble even the biggest couch potato's brain (for the record : the Biggest Couch Potato = me). I am so SICK of doing nothing!
Top that off with the fact that I read books at the speed of light, well. BLAH. I run out of books pretty fast (if you didn't get me the first time). And DVDs too. I've seen every single movie there is to be seen in my house.
So yeah, as of now, Maths tuition is my saving grace.
I LOVE MATHS!!!
(Make the most of this attitude while it lasts - by this time next year, it'll be a whole different ball game ;P)

Sad Sad Case
It's funny how something can be your whole life one minute, then turn into something you'd rather not think about or acknowledge the other. I suppose I've got a bigger track record in that sense compared to any other living being, but time and time again I can't seem to pinpoint the source of my.. er.. short attention span? Or maybe it's just disillusionment. I don't know.. but if it is, I seem to get disillusioned pretty damn fast.
I guess it's probably as simple as knowing what you want and knowing enough to stay away from what you (under normal you circumstances) would not even think of wanting. There's a sense of deja vu with me, too. I seem to repeat the same mistakes, it's not difficult to see the pattern in my choices. And the funny thing is, they're all complete opposites of what I really want.
Maybe I'm a scaredy cat, hiding behind what's safe and easy. Maybe I don't wanna put myself on the line. But then good things don't come easy (a little cliche here and there never killed anybody *sticks out tongue*), right? But hell. Getting burned once is more than enough to think twice about sticking my head out there.
I could psycho-analyze myself and say, "You got some issues, baby. You need ta clean up that mess inside that li'l head of yours before you start playin' anymore games. You pick 'em so you're in control, so they can't hurt you. You's scared, plain and simple. Get your act together, woman!"
And I'd say myself is right.
(Don't mind me.. I'm in a blabbering mood today.)

Ramblerambleramble.. Woohoo!
G'day people. I have writer's block yet again, so I'll be rambling along typing random stuff. Although, I'm sure you're used to it now if you've been reading this blog. Note the "if", though. I'm a blasted crap-writer. If you're looking for deep thoughts and "the meaning of life", go elsewhere. I'm a shallow biatch, especially when it comes to my writing. Thank you.
Now, should I sound bimbo-ish or grandmother-ish today? I can't decide. Grandmother-ish requires me to find something to lecture on, unfortunately. Should I give y'all a lecture? Hm... But what on? Um.. Uh.. Dang! I usually have some self-righteous something to blabber about, but strangely, not today. Gah. Some other time, then.
How does one sound like a bimbo? Uck. Or maybe I don't even have to try. Yay! Nah.. that was so Queer Eye. Blah. Did I ever tell you that I ADORE Carson? His brain is right up my alley... The King (Queen? lol) of Sarcasm. I love ya, doll.
Oooh! Guess what song is stuck in my head? The damn Maxis ad song! "I want it all.. and I want it NOW!" Weeeha. It does not get weirder than this, folks. Or maybe it does. Yeah.. it probably does.
Oh yeah, baby. I'm LOooOOOSssIInnnG It! Confinement to the house ain't good. I's stuck in the house 24/5 (at least) if there's no one else in. Coz someone has to be home with my 91 year old hyperactive grandmother. Today, grandmother's gone out. And I'm still stuck at home. Doing what? Bloody housework! Which I do everyday, anyway. Argh!
Someone kidnap me and fly me to the nearest MPH PLEASE! (I know that sounds like super-nerd, but I don't bloody care. I want me some (more) books. So there.)

Fussy Ol' Me
A few things the masses need to know about me, I suppose.
(a) I attract the wrong kinds of guys - meaning, the ones I'm not likely to be attracted to.
(b) I'm attracted to the wrong kinds of guys - those who aren't likely to be attracted to me.
(c) I'm fussy beyond belief: One tiny thing can get on my nerves and turn me off faster than you can say "skin and bones".
(d) I'm a hopeless romantic - no spark, no thanks.
(e) I don't exactly get out enough to actually come into contact with potential spark-ers.
(f) You could say I've had enough of being on the uh, stronger side. I want to whine and be pampered.. for once. Blah.
So there you have it. Until I start crush-ing hopelessly on some poor, unlucky sod, I'm gonna be enjoying the freedom (or boredom.. however you want to look at it) of the single life.
I hope no one asks me anymore. I swear, if I hear that question one more time I'll scream. Like, literally.

Instant Madness
For myself I've been resorting to Maggi Mee, Maggi Mee and more Maggi Mee. I'm the Queen of Maggi Mee. I really am. And please, shoot whoever says practice makes perfect. If my Maggi Mee making skills are anything to go by, that theory is shot full of holes anyway. Thou shalt not ask Elaine to make Maggi Mee, for thou will not want to eat - or even see - Maggi Mee again in thy entire life. Thou hast been warned!
One thing I CAN do, I suppose. Open a can of chilli tuna, warm up rice (see, this is where my rice warming skills come in.. lol), mix the lot together in a bowl, and EAT :D It's good. Very very good. Hehe. Mainly coz I'm not required to cook it.
But a huge part of my diet is instant rasam and rice. Yeah, you read right. Instant rasam. My grandma's friend gave her this rasam paste, which when mixed with hot water, gives you.. *drumroll*.. Instant Rasam!!! *wild applause* Ahem. Okay.
I think I've established that I cannot cook anything unless it has "instant" on it, or requires no cooking at all. Unless, of course, it needs warming up. Then I'm in my element (hehe).
I'm in dire need of help. Sniffles. But cooking's BORING! It takes a monumental amount of patience (for me, at least) to stand there and "wait for the thing to boil", "let it cook in it's own juices"... Argh! I guess I'll just resign myself to surviving on instant everything. Or... find a boyfriend who can cook. Hahahahahahaha!
Bye now!

Aussie Cuzzies
Okay, so the world and his brother knows I'm the biggest female anti-shopper ever to exist. And woe is me - I had 3 full days of shopping almost back to back last week! (One with mum, 2 with my cousins). Pardon moi, but I don't think I'll ever get the novelty of looking-trying-putting-back-on-rack. Nothing drains me more than shopping... Maybe except a 1500 metre run. Blah.
But that said, I had a blast anyway. Mainly coz my cousins are such an entertaining bunch :) Just listening to them was like one laugh after another. Especially when we tried to translate English swear words into Malay for them. In a train full of Malays they're going, "Keju zakar!" and "perogol emak!" at the top of their lungs! Dave and I were like, "SHUSH!!!!" But it was still utterly hilarious. Just thinking about that makes me wanna laugh all over again. Haha.
What's sad is in all these years, we've only seen 'em 3 or 4 times. And I think this is the most time we've ever spent together. It was good that we did, though. All this while they've kinda been the cousins we knew the least about. But it was a lot of fun, and it's great that I'll be seeing them again.
I'll miss 'em. It isn't often I see people bicker more than David and me :P But seriously, anyone who can get Dave to get himself made over is more than worth knowing... Lol. I'm just really glad they're not strangers anymore. Whoopdeedooo.
Now 'scuse me while I go try and see if I can stop thinking in an Australian accent (it's really contagious). Buhbye!

5D Reunion
There weren't many of us... Around 18 (out of 44), and 3 teachers - our class (and BM) teacher, Pn. Aini; our Chemistry teacher, Pn. Chan; and our Biology teacher, Pn. Zakiah. It was a pity that some of the other teachers didn't come. I was looking forward to seeing my History teacher, who's probably one of the coolest teachers I know. Sigh.
That aside, it was fatastic seeing my old classmates again. Some of them have changed so much, it's like - WOW! But most of them are still the same.. and that's really comforting :) What amazes me, though, is how we can still sit down and yak away for 4 hours straight when we haven't seen each other in months!
(Ju Li doesn't count - 4 hours is miniscule when it comes to us and yakking :P).
What's really sad, though, is that after only 3 months, we're already down to 18 at a reunion. After a year, how many will there be? Sigh.
But I must say this - 5 Dedikasi may have been the best academic class, but we were by far the least nerdy of the 5Ds before us (at least, that I've seen :P), what with Insanely Sane in the class... (lol) and we're certainly one of the most successful, as far as SPM is concerned.
We've proven that you can talk about nothing but boys and crack lame jokes while pretending to be in a study group, and still get away with achieving impressive results. No need to study 24/7 and break your back with stress. We've shown that you can be a normal teenager and still get what you want academically. And that is something to be proud of.
God bless you, all in 5D 2004 - you guys are the best, and if I ever forget a single one of you, you have full permission to smash my face in :P

Shopping = Feet Killer
Okay, that might sound really pathetic, but jeans have been the bane of my life for ages! If the waist is just nice, the hips won't fit. If it fits the hips, the waist is too huge. Blah. If there's one thing about my Indian heritage that I would gladly give up, it's the thighs. Skinny calves, enormous thighs. Sigh sigh double triple sigh.
But oh well... I got some pretty okay stuff today so I'm satisfied. It's more stuff than I bought the whole of last year put together! So I would say - all in a damn good days work. I'm just glad my mother realized that I was in dire need of a wardrobe update :)
After this.. no more shopping for another 6 months at least. It's a tiring job. Boring, tiring and sometimes completely pointless. Makes you want to break something when an outfit looks nice on the rack and sucks on you, or looks great on you but is not so great on the wallet. Pah.
Okay, whining quota up for the day. Thank GOD I got those jeans!!! :D

Highland Holiday
Mum, Dave, my 2 cousins and I went up to Genting for... fun. Naturally, the Theme Park Hotel was fully booked. So we opted for First World.
Anyone who's been there knows how large the First World Hotel lobby is. And let me tell you, it was practically impossible to walk anywhere without bumping into another human being (or a pillar, if you're unlucky). And everywhere you turned, there were people sitting on the floor surrounded by bags. Two words : REFUGEE CAMP!!! Honest, that's what it looked like.
The amount of intelligized primates walking around put us off going to the theme park so we went up to First World instead... And bumped into guys in ugly masks promoting the Haunted Adventure. They were trying to be scary but to be honest, it's hard to get scared when the ghost is dancing to Punjabi MC.
But my youngest cousin (she's 14... lol) was scared, so only 3 of us went up. Haunted adventure? More like laughable. The only thing that was scary was the thought that the loud clapping noise would kill our ear drums. Blah.
But the Ripley's Believe It Or Not exhibition was something else. Cool stories on people who survived horrific accidents, guys with horns and extra pupils, the world's fattest guy, medieval torture equipment... Wow. We spent an hour going through the whole thing. Fascinating!
At 8 p.m. we finally decided to check out the theme park. Only managed to try 3 rides coz it was so misty we couldn't see more than a few feet in front of us. Sigh. Wasted.
One thing I've learned : For some reason, guys in Genting are a hundred times bolder than those in KL. They'd chat you up if you give 'em half the chance. Freaky!
We still enjoyed ourselves, though. It was like we were on laughing gas the whole time. Well, blame it on David. Who wouldn't laugh when a Form 4 SCIENCE student calls the pupil "kanta mata"? Oh.. ROFLMAO!!!
'Kay, nuff now. Buhbye for another few days.

SPM Results Out 10 March 2005
AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
*sniffles*
Tomorrow's D-Day. Can't believe it's finally here. A part of me can't wait to know yet another part doesn't wanna find out. Torture, I tell you! But I know there's nothing I can do to change it now. Whatever happens, it is solely my responsibility - I don't do well, it's because I didn't put in the effort. No two ways about it. Heck, if I don't do well, I'll just take it as a lesson and start studying for my STPM. Like, immediately. Tomorrow. Yeah.
It'll be a lot easier, though, if less people expect me to do well. Oh yeah, they say "Don't worry laa.. you'll do well one! Sure do well!" I'm like, "Um....." What happens if I DON'T? I know I shouldn't worry about what other people think, but lemme tell you, it gets to me every time. Heck, I have my pride! (A bit too much of it sometimes... lol)
Being perceived to be a "good student" can be something of a curse when it comes to stuff like this. I could get, say, 4 As. And be dragged over coals for it. Someone else might get 4 As and praised to high heavens. Pah. Okay okay, I realize it's all got to do with living up to potential... But ARGH! Way to stress people out! Sigh.
When it comes down to it, though, I just have to accept whatever comes. You reap what you sow, as the saying goes, and I'm not convinced I sowed enough to get me the results people think I should get. I guess that remains to be seen... All I'm confident of is that I'm going to be a 100 bucks richer (from Vemal) and in line for a free dinner (from Kevin). Thanks for believing in me guys!! *grins wickedly*
Wish me luck, y'all! Or better still... Pray super hard for me!

Yo Yo
Like, given the chance, I'd smash his face in. BUT. When I see him, smashing his face in doesn't seem like the best idea. Or I vow to keep him at arms length, and 2 seconds later I'm cheerily replying a message as if everything is "oooh aah wonderful". And lord knows, I hate him for doing that to me.
But then again, it's not exactly his fault either. If I had enough common sense, I'd keep my distance. Politeness rules, but no more personal level business. Sigh. Easy to say, hard to do. Although, I kinda think given the right situation, I might be able to break out of this miserable hole I'm in.
Oh well. I'll just have to resign myself to the fact that unless I do something about it, I'm going to be played like a yo yo until I'm able to snap that damn string. Grrr.
Break, string, BREAK!

PS: These entries are all based on my own personal beliefs and experiences. I certainly don't intend to offend anybody :)
Day 1
The flight to Kuching was a little hard on the neck. I didn't dare recline the seat because David's legs are so long. And he doesn't take too kindly to being woken up. Especially if he's been running on less than 5 hours sleep.
Had lunch and met up with the group from Johor Bahru, many of them old friends, so it was pretty pleasant. We had to wait about an hour before the transport arrived and all 21 of us were dumped into a fleet of MPVs (almost all manned by the same family).
Came to the foot of Mt. Singai where we joined up with another group from KL and proceeded to trek up the mountain. And oh boy, were we in for an ordeal! (Okay, so I'm exaggerating, but only just a little... really!) From what I've gathered, the Catholic Memorial and Pilgrimage Centre was about 600 feet up, and basically we had to struggle up some pretty steep stairs while lugging bags that were not even close to being suitable for a "mountain-climbing" trip.
But to be honest, it was all worth it because on the way up, we had to pray the Way of the Cross - and it was the most meaningful one I've ever done. Because in the physical exertion, we could begin to grasp just a little of what Jesus had gone through for our sakes. It also made me vow to make sure I got the most out of the retreat... Only so that I didn't kill my right shoulder for nothing!
The rest of the day was a blur... an ice cold bath, dinner, an introductory talk and bed after (in a long house with 10 rooms... that was cool :P). Went to bed praying that I would be able to get up off the floor the next morning.
Day 2
I can't tell you how good it felt to see that David and I weren't the only "below 20s" there as we're accustomed to on retreats like this. There were two primary school kids, 3 school leavers (my age) and 4 in their early 20s. A huge amount, compared to what we're used to :)
We started the first two sessions of the daywith a profile of the Younger Son (the title character). Now, the Prodigal Son is arguably the most well known of all the parables of Jesus and so it was a real revelation of the level of my knowledge when I filled at least 4 pages of my notebook with insights that I'd never thought of in all my years of knowing the story!
But what really hit like the proverbial ton of bricks was when the speaker (Dr. Jeffrey Goh.. he's got a PhD in theology!) asked us to describe the Younger Son, upon which the usual adjectives were thrown about "arrogant.. stubborn.. irresponsible.. disrespectful.. ungrateful.." - only to have him say, "Boy are you good at describing yourselves!"
Ouch! It hurt, but it was true, true, TRUE! Replace the old father with God, and the boy with ourselves and poof! You get a story that is playing out in real life, right now, with exactly the same attitudes thrown in the mix. Who says Bible stories are outdated?
The afternoon saw Archbishop John Ha speak on the Elder Son (the guy who was pissed that his father threw a party for his wayward brother instead of, say, grounding him... at the very least). Once again, the down to earth descriptions of this character became painful to listen to - mainly because I could see myself in both the boys.. and it really wasn't a pretty picture.
All in all, it was a day for some real soul-searching and it wasn't easy. By the time night came, I was exhausted... more in my mind than physically. There were confessions, but in the state of mind I was in, I doubt I would have gone if it hadn't been for two really good friends (Mark and Patrick).
I say really good not because I know them awfully well, but because they are the kind of Christian friends that are beyond difficult to find... The kind that encourage you, and you know for certain that their hearts are in the right place.
Day 3
The afternoon was the Veneration of the Cross and boy, did I bawl my eyes out! (Don't ask why, but looking at the crucifix after you hear of how unwavering God's love is is a recipe for grief. Seriously, you should try it sometime). No one had less of a reason to die than Jesus did. And in the most degrading way at that.
But for some reason I have yet to fathom (if you can truly grasp how the kind of love it must take for someone to that, let me know) he thought we were worth all that he went through. And I don't know what else to say, except that it was profoundly humbling.
After a round of group photos and lunch (during which I got to speak to a group of young Sarawakian native boys.. pity I hadn't spoken to them earlier... they were mighty friendly), we started down. Going down was a lot easier than going up. Mainly because the bag I carried down probably didn't weigh half as much as my bag (the one I carried up... that was 9 kg, as I later found out at the airport... no wonder my shoulder nearly died!).
I guess for a lot of reasons the trip was one I'll never forget. The CMPC was a beautiful place, and given the chance, I would have stayed up there longer. But underneath it all, I guess you could say I've never had so much fantastic input since 2002. And as every day, down to earth kind of teachings go, it was unprecedented.
I just hope I can keep my focus this time around. It isn't easy to do, but nothing is. If it taught me anything, at the very least, it taught me that much.

Dumdeedoooo...
Ohhh! I made pork vindaloo today! Well, um. Okay. I didn't MAKE it exactly. I.. um.. stirred it! I put in the ingredients and stirred! See? That does count as cooking right? Right? Oh well. At least I know how to make it now. I'd give you the whole recipe but I wouldn't wanna bore you. Heehee. But I do know it! I swear!
Went out with Davina, Ee May and Adrien to Fruity's for a "late tea". Lesson learnt : Esprit Passionfruit + strawberry milkshake = Something that leaves a guava aftertaste in your mouth. Then we trooped over to my house and had a uh.. noise-making session (it was good noise, though.. whatever that is :P), with Dav on the piano, Ee May on the violin, Adrien singing and me? Haha. Yowling my head off. Blah. I can't sing. Sniffles. And we did the Phantom of the Opera too. Scary betul. Hope my neighbours don't complain about me and my screeching *shudders* I'm a pathetico case, dahlings. But it was good fun. We should do that more often.
I'm going to Sarawak tomorrow baby! But for a retreat so I doubt I'll get to see anything of the state. Sigh. Anyway... off for now! Be back when my brain comes out of freeze zone.

What Love Is..
"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Rebecca - age 8
"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4
"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs." Chrissy - age 6
"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." Terri - age 4
"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." Danny - age 7
"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss." Emily - age 8
"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." Bobby - age 7
"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate." Nikka - age 6
"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday." Noelle - age 7
"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who ! are still friends even after they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6
"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore." Cindy - age 8
"My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night." Clare - age 6
"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken." Elaine - age 5
"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford." Chris - age 7
"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." Mary Ann - age 4
"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." Lauren - age 4
"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross." Mark - age 6
"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." Jessica - age 8
And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.
The winner of this contest was a four-year-old child whose next-door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing! , I just helped him cry."

Legally Legal!!!
Okay okay *calms down*. Well, the "big" day was yesterday. And as per the usual, I had a pretty quiet birthday. Bummed around in the morning and had piano class (ah the cruel-ness of fate!) in the afternoon. Sigh. Does that sound like a regular ol' day to you? I thought so.
Mum took me, Dave, Sharm, Steph and Sheryll to TGI Friday's in Section 14. Meal came up to 184 ++ bucks, I think. *wipes brow* But hell. Once in a lifetime la right... :) Anyway. My dear cousins and mum couldn't keep their mouths shut and announced to one of them waitresses (who happens to be Sharm's friend) that it was my birthday. Whoop dee doo.
Next thing you know, our table is surrounded by TGI staff and I'm being coerced into standing on the chair. Oh lordy. And if that's not enough, they shout to the entire room that "This is Elaine and it's her BIRTHDAY!" Way to wanna be an ostrich!! And if that ain't enough, I have to SING. Yeah. That's right. ME. Sing. Potential disaster, darlin'. Ended up singing True. Which was the easiest of the "requests". The others were "something from Alicia Keys" or "J Lo's My Love Don't Cost A Thing". Ahem. Elaine - Alicia Keys? Nah uh. That just takes away the "potential" out of "potential disaster".
And after I sing? I gotta give a speech. Eeks! I'm just about the worst speech giver in the history of mankind. So I end up sounding like I'm at the Academy Awards or something. "Thank you.. Thank you.. Thank you.." Oh the shame!!! *faints*
Okay, so it was good fun. But anyone who knows me will tell you that I hate being the center of attention. I keep to myself as much as possible and I hate drawing the least bit of attention to myself. Sigh. Oh well. At least I did it and it WAS an experience. *pats self on back*
Lesson I learned on my 18th birthday : I'm not a complete chicken after all! :D

Laporan Sambutan Tahun Baru Cina
Anyway, I'll just do this day by day.
Tuesday - CNY Eve
Travelled down to M'cca in a car that was filled with more food than humans. Word of advice : Never go on a 2 hour journey with a heavenly smelling, uncut brownie on your lap. It's sheer torture, I tell you!
Didn't take long for us to get around to going to the Jetty. As expected, the place was still heavenly. Even though in the last 6 months or so that we've not been here, two large holes have appeared in the wood. Bah. That didn't deter my pest of a brother from crossing over, though (and scaring me nearly to death half a dozen times).
Wednesday - First day of CNY
Spent the morning at the graveyard. Grandkids sat around and chatted in the blazing hot sun while the kids cleaned the graves. An exercise in futility if you asked me. Especially when you light joss sticks and won't visit the grave for at least another month.
But the experience was rather enlightening. Thanks to a filial grand-daughter of an aunt, we got to see our great grandmother's grave - Oh Bin Niyu, was her name. And believe me, we wouldn't have known two bits about her otherwise. And we got to see the grave of a grand-uncle that we never saw. Ong Kam Choon - my grandma's younger brother who died at 46 of kidney (or liver - they can't decide *rolls eyes*) failure. And also my great grandpa's grave. Weehoo. Family history. You gotta love it.
Went out at night in search of cafes. All were jam packed. Like sardines. With (excuse me, but I have to say this) Ah Bengs, Ah Lians and what my cousins called "Lalas". Malacca sure is a mini China! Anyway, we finally managed to find one with enough place for 10 people but BOY! Was the service slow! Someone tell me how long does it really take to open 4 bottles of beer? I really doubt it takes longer than to make an ice blended mocha latte. Sheesh!
We finally abandoned that cafe (and good riddance too!) and went in search of kerang celup. By that time it was... hm... 1 a.m., I think. But we found one! Oh yes indeedy! Bliss bliss bliss! And oh yeah. I reinforced why I detest beer. Beer in the can sucks. Big time. Ugh.
Thursday - Second day of CNY
Half the gang went home. *sobs* Mind, this wouldn'ta happened if ol' gran had been alive. Sigh. People dying sucks. 3 of us went to see Constantine. Man, it feels good to be (almost) 18!!! Now I can take out my ID with ease. Hehe.
Managed to convince my 58 year old aunt (who's a self-confessed lover of shandy) to try Bailey's Irish Cream. Which, as anyone will tell you, is a thousand times nicer than shandy *grins* Ended up at the Geographer on Jonker Street where David spent a 100 bucks ++ on drinks. (Their vodka lime sucked, by the way. Too much ice, not enough vodka. Bah.)
Friday - Third day of Chinese New Year
Trudged on home. With more things than we left home with. Sigh. That, m'dears, is the nature of the Lim Aunties. It's a taboo to go back with your car less than nine tenths full. Huh. Someone explain that to me.
Well, suffice to say, we'll be lobbyin' like hell for another CNY there. Too many memories. Lesson for the Day : NOTHING beats tradition. And you better believe it.

Chinese New Year
This year, though, is going to be slightly different - bitter-sweet's the word for it, I guess. Since my grandmother died last year, we won't be officially celebrating CNY. And to make things worse, this'll be the last year we go down to Malacca for CNY because with both grandparents gone, the uncles 'n' aunts find no reason for everyone to go all the way to Malacca when 90% of us are in KL.
Which basically sucks. Because ever since we were BORN we've been going back for CNY. Every single year! It's like a tradition - ingrained into us. I can bet that CNY without Malacca will never feel like CNY. To us grandkids, Malacca = CNY, and that's the bottom line. With everyone in KL, we'll probably meet for say... dinner. Then everyone'll go their separate ways. Sigh.
That said, you can bet us cousins will try and make the most of this "last trip". We'll go to the Jetty, tramp over to the Portugese settlement, buy instant noodles from the 7 Eleven, eat all the Malaccan food we can find (it doesn't taste as good in KL).... Argh! I'm still so so so sad!!!! :(
I suppose we'll give it a shot and go down on our knees and beg our parents to reconsider. Our reactions may seem extreme, but CNY in Malacca has always been very, very special to all the kids. Family-bonding time, and all that nonsense. I know for sure that I'll always feel that something's missing. It may fade in time, but I doubt I'll ever have as much fun as I've had every year for 18 years - ever again. Sniffles.
Anyway, wishing you guys a very Happy Chinese New Year and I hope you get lots and lots and lots of ang pows! God bless.

*grumble grumble grumble*
Yeah yeah.. Ju would probably disagree that I DO have a brain (her's hardened into bone a long time ago due to lack of use *grins wickedly*)... But that's coz she's just jealous. Unfortunately for me though, it looks like my brain's headed that way now. Hardening. After all, it doesn't take much brain power to read, watch TV or sleep. And that's basically all I've been doing. Since SPM ended. Sigh.
Oh woe is me!!! I come from the weirdest family ever, I tell ya! Most parents are practically shoving their kids out the door: "Go get a job! Don't be lazy!" While mine? "You want to work? For what? No! You stay home!"
Um?
Yeah. So I'm stuck at home, wondering what to do with all the time I suddenly have on my hands. I've tried studying my Form 6 work and looking for a tuition teacher, but the guy my mum asked actually LAUGHED! He said, "Why does she want to start so early? Most people don't start til May!" And laughed some more. Hmph. Ain't like I've got anything better to do, anyways! Grr.
I'll just leave it at this till I get some sort of inspiration. As of now, my mind's still not functioning (needs a LOT of oiling, mind) and I don't think I'll be writing anything good in the near future. Sigh. Oh well... Gonna go fill my brain with Phantom music (yes, I'm still addicted to that thing).
Bye now, all you lucky people with lives!

It's a Hap-Hap-Happy Day!!!
*dances around waving CD in the air*
Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I absolutely adore the music! Superb! Magnifique! I'm running out of French words! Wheeeee! Andrew Llyod Webber is a GENIUS! No, he's more than that - he's a SUPER-GENIUS!

Personal Favourites:
Think of Me
Music of the Night
Angel of Music

Oh and Patrick Wilson and Emmy Rossum complement each other REALLY well. PW is a pretty darned good singer, actually. So's ER.
Ooooh BLISS! Goodbye, now. I just HAD to come on and post this. I'm SO happy, you wouldn't believe it. (Okay, so I'm a sad addict. I don't care... I'm luvvin it, baybee! *grins*)
I'll see you 'round. When I can tear myself away from that CD player, that is! Haha.
*waves and skips off*

Flu-ey Blu-ey
Oh all right. I'm not quite THAT high yet, but I'm getting there. I don't wanna fall sick. It's no fun falling sick. I got no school to ponteng now, so it's pointless falling sick *grins* But ooooh! The suckiness of having a flu when all you wanna do is enjoy!
*clears throat*
Fine. I guess it makes no difference. I laze around anyway, so being sick is a good enough excuse to stay in bed without mum dragging me out. As she's apt to do these days. I'm a lazy bum, I know but when there's nothing else to do, I might as well stay in the most comfy place in the house right? Right?
Oooh. Headache coming on. I better stop. Sigh. (One more thing about the flu - no computer, no TV. *sobs*)
*mutters to self* I will not get sick.. I will not get sick.. I will not...
