Thoughts on Love and Marriage By Our Children...
HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY?
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10
No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kristen, age 10
WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-- Camille, age 10
HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8
WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)
On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10
WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?
I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
-- Craig, age 9
WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
When they're rich.
-- Pam, age 7
The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
-- Curt, age 7
The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
-- Howard, age 8
IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
-- Anita, age 9 (bless you child)
HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-- Kelvin, age 8
And The #1 Response Was...
HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a dump truck.
-- Ricky, age 10

Very Fair Indeed! :)
If you guys haven't seen it, or are planning to, I urge you to go... tis an experience that shouldn't be missed! It'll be staged til the 20th of May and you can get tickets here.
However, it must be said that no one will ever replace Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins, no matter how good they are! :)
MP Fiasco *shakes head sadly*
However, I would like to know this: How do you vote for people who do not have a shred of decency and courtesy? (Mind, I'm not talking about the entire party, just a few public figures who are a disgrace not only to themselves and their parties, but Malaysians in general).
I would like to think that the MPs, the very people who form the laws that govern us, would behave in more civilised manner than 7-year-olds having a brawl in the school hall. However, this doesn't seem to be the case with some of them.
What am I talking about, you ask? (And this is just ONE case, mind.. there were similar ones before.)
Read this excerpt taken from the Star website:
"The furore started last week in the Dewan Rakyat when opposition MPs tried to raise a motion on the leaking ceiling near the media centre.
Bung Mokhtar and Mohd Said then said, “Mana bocor? Batu Gajah pun bocor setiap bulan.” (Where is the leak? Batu Gajah (MP Fong Po Kuan) also leaks every month.) "
Just because a statement is deemed true, does not give anyone the right to make it. Especially not when you're in the process of an official discussion. It was just plain rude, it's as simple as that. And what was the reaction of Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department?
“..To apologise to Fong is not on. I don’t agree.
“This is part of parliamentary debates. Both MPs uttered the words during the heat of their debate, and you cannot control people’s emotions.."
- Sharizat to meet with MPs (click on link for full story)
This is part of parliamentary debates? So that's how our MPs debate, is it? My god, for shame! And he can say that they should apologise to women in general, but not to the woman the statement was made to? Good golly gosh. How dumb does this man think the Malaysian public is, anyway, not to see the complete lack of logic in such a statement?
Oh I'm not so naive as to think that all the people we elect are decent human beings who know when they've said something wrong and apologize for it. But I would expect the party involved to take measures to make sure such people are properly chastised!
Hey, I know teenagers who debate in a much more decent manner than the above! It's possible to have an argument without resorting to degradation of any sort. But if we go on saying, "oh, you shouldn't take it seriously, it was just a joke" or "the media blew the whole thing completely out of proportion", then is this not condoning the situation? It is not just what was said that is the issue.. it is the entire principle of the matter!
Or has our government forgotten that one line in the Rukunegara, which they created to foster unity among people of different race, religion, creed, and heck, even gender, I might add?
"Kesopanan dan kesusilaan".
Tell me, please, did "kesopanan" come into the MPs statement at all? If it did not, they should apologize, not only to women in general, but to the one they said it to.. that's just common decency! Those who create the law should be the first ones to uphold it, and is not the Rukunegara one of the more important parts of our Constitution?
And tis not the first time such things are happening, if the reports are to be believed. So, by closing one eye (or both eyes and ears, as it seems in this case), the government has allowed such things to be so commonplace, that they try to justify with "This is part of parliamentary debates." It is truly a pathetic excuse.
If they want the support of us youngsters, "the future of the nation", as they like to call us, the government should step up and clean up their act before a whole lot of us are alienated. We're a generation who are more exposed to what's right and what's just plain wrong when it comes to the rights of human beings, and if they truly think they can get away with insulting our intelligence, well.. eventually they'll lose all those who actually CAN think for themselves, either to other parties, or worse, other countries.
As it is, I shall be thinking long and hard now about who I will vote for when the time comes. It's my country after all, and I do hate to see her shamed by a few people who show such a blatant disrespect for the people and the country that they claim to serve.

These Open Arms
And everything you ever thought was right, was wrong?
And what if everyone you ever loved was torn, from the pages of your life?
Would you reach out for tomorrow, or try to turn back time?
These open arms will wait for you
These open arms can pull us through
Between what's left and left to do
These open arms
These open arms
These open arms will wait for you
Did you really love the ones you said you loved, think twice.
And did you make a bit of difference in somebody elses life?
Tell me, is there someone you can count on when you need a friend?
Can you see I need a friend?
These open arms will wait for you
These open arms can pull us through
Between whats left and left to do
These open arms
These open arms
These open arms will wait for you
Surrendering high
Give in, stop questioning why
Open your heart up to love & you'll see you will find
These open arms will wait for you
These open arms can pull us through
Between what's left and left to do
These open arms
These open arms
These open arms
These open arms
These open arms will wait for you

Self-rant
I think I've mastered the art of disguising my feelings somewhat - I can put on a cheerful face when all I want to do is throw something at the wall and curse fate for all the insanity it keeps deciding to send my way. What I haven't managed to get a hold of, though, is how to keep those emotions at bay. The ones that creep up on you when you least expect them to and take you into a chokehold of pain so strong that you can barely breathe.
Am I being a tad melodramatic? Well, forgive me. I don't do well with pent-up anything, be it good feelings or bad. And while I've had more than my share of "good", it seems that at some point the bad must come in, and it hasn't decided to leave just yet.
Oh, I'm more than aware that allowing one's self to be hurt is 90% of the process of being hurt in the first place. However, tis easier said than done to place the blame solely at one's feet. Or maybe I'm just a coward. Huh. That'd explain a hell of a lot.
To top it off, I'm turning into someone I don't recognise.. I'm not a jealous person by nature. But lately my mind keeps heading out into forbidden territory and the ugly green monster (hey, it has my face on it after all!!! Haha :P) rears it's head. Sigh.
I want my old self back. The one who could just shrug off indifference and go about her daily business unaffected. I don't like self pity, but it seems I'm turning into the one thing I hate most - a hypocrite. Argh!
Seems this entire post is contradictory huh? Darn it all. Oh well.. just needed to rant at myself a little. Tis time I took the blame for SOME of the negative aspects of my life.

On Love...
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.
All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.
But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."
And think not that you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

If only everyone could evaluate their feelings before actually acting on them, then maybe there wouldn't be so many broken lives, families and people.

You Are My Miracle
Tutte le cose che non sai io te le insegnero
Le stelle che tu conterai te le regalero
Sapro inventare favole che ti raccontero
Cosi che I sogni volino piu a nord
So many things I've never known that I will learn from you
Finding reason in your words that are tried and true
E provero a sorprenderti con un sorriso in piu
Cosi che possa perderti anche tu
You are my miracle
You are soft and pure just like the air I breathe
You, heart of my heart
There's a secret that you hold - that you hold
Deep within that so discreetly hides your soul
The strength I simply never found, I will find in you
What I believe our future holds, I will see it through
Con te vivro ogni attimo che mi regalerai
Come se fosse l'ultimo per noi
You are my miracle
Acqua chiara e fresca che fa vivere
You, heart or my heart
There's a secret that you hold - that you hold
And it's hidden so discreetly
E mi guidera
Verso il centro dell'amore
Love, heart of my heart
There's a secret that you hold - that you hold
Che nasconde dolcemente
Will you share the secret with me
Ever more

You're Not Gonna Believe This... :)
I am back in KL!
Well.. Klang, to be more precise.
Now, before you all go, "HUH?!", let me explain...
Through a series of miscommunications and "I don't know, go ask them when you register"s, I finally figured out that it would be far more practical for me to repeat STPM than to do the foundation course.
Here's why...
1. When I asked the people manning the office if it were possible to only take certain pertinent subjects, the answer was, "I'm not sure, ask the admissions people when you register". [Point of info: It costs almost RM20000 for a full year in foundation (STPM costs RM195 to register for). ]
2. So, showed up at the uni, was rushed into registration by some pretty flustered personnel. (Which was pretty stupid, considering the fact that I needed to have my questions answered BEFORE I registered.) But anyway.. Turns out there are no exemptions in subjects in the foundation course. I'd HAVE to take Physics, a subject I have not touched or thought about in more than 2 years.
3. Now, if you were me, would you rather go through something that's already familiar, or waste precious brushing-up time trying to re-learn something that you've completely thrown out of your mind?
4. PLUS, if, something should happen again (like the migraine attack last year), I'd have to re-do the foundation programme because of the fact that the qualifications is useless for anywhere other than the uni (another RM20000), as opposed to spending another RM195 if such a thing should happen again while re-sitting STPM.
So, finally concluded (after consulting with dad and my uncle Berty) that the best thing to do was just to come back and retake the exam. I mean, what do I have to lose? Maybe another year?
I know this whole thing sounds like a regular fiasco, but I can honestly say that had my questions been answered in due time, I wouldn't have made the decision to go. However, it was quite a good experience coz I got to see the campus - which is actually a really nice campus. Or it will be once it's fully up and running. I can safely say that I wouldn't mind doing my degree there at all.
Oh, and the best part - I got new clothes, new shoes and a new laptop out of this whole mess :) So I suppose it weren't all for nothing. Hehe..
So looks like I'll be seeing more of you guys than you thought! Poor souls... Heehee!
Well, toodles for now! Just thought I'd update y'all.

I'm not living without you
I dont wanna be free

And you, and you
You're gonna love me, oohh ooh mm mm
You're gonna love me
And I am telling you
I'm not going
Even though the rough times are showing
There's just no way, there's no way
We're part of the same place
We're part of the same time
We both share the same blood
We both have the same mind
And time and time, we've had so much to see and
No, no, no, no, no, no
I'm not waking up tomorrow morning
And finding that there's nobody there
Darling there's no way
No, no, no, no way Im living without you
I'm not living without you
You see there's just no way, there's no way
Tear down the mountains
Yell, scream, and shout like you can say what you want
I'm not walking out
Stop all the rivers, push, strike, and kill
I'm not gonna leave you
There's no way I will
And I am telling you
I'm not going
You're the best man I'll ever know
There's no way I can ever, ever go
No, no, no, no way
No, no, no, no way
I'm living without you
Oh, I'm not living without you, not living without you
I dont wanna be free
I'm staying, I'm staying
And you, and you, and you
You're gonna love me
You're gonna love me, yes you are
Ooh ooh love me, ooh ooh ooh love me
Love me, love me, love me, love me
You're gonna love me

Cookout!
From Left to Right: David, Ash, me, Jono and Ezra!Today was fun. The best RSVP team on the planet finally got together for the first time since the 21st of March. God knows, I missed them! We had so much of fun, what with lunches and daily ogling sessions at Decanter, making silly jokes, discussing our various relationships (mainly Ezra's :P) or the lack, thereof.. It felt like we'd known each other for years, instead of just for 3 weeks.
Anyway, we finally had the cook-out we've been wanting to have for the past couple of weeks or so. God, we made so much of food for 5 people, it was unbelievable! Haha.. 2 types of spaghetti (arrabbiatta and my own "experiment" with dried prawn chilli paste), grilled chicken ala Ezra, fresh garden salad and ice cream with Hersheys chocolate sauce for dessert.
Woooh!
Talk about an endorphin-releasing meal :P Anyhow, it all turned out pretty darn well.. Although it's a shame.. I forgot to remind Jon to take pictures of the feast we whipped up. Sigh... Oh well. There'll be a next time!
It really was awesome to just lepak with the gang again. Hopefully we'll see more of 'em.
I think I really will invite myself over for tea at Ash's next week :)
Of Stress-related Silliness, and Cuteness
We went to see Mr. Bean's Holiday last Thursday. God, it felt good to laugh my head off after a month of little sleep and plenty of stress. I absolutely loved the opera scene. Rowan Atkinson at his best, methinks! :)
I started this one night when I absolutely could NOT sleep (methinks it was remnants from the "an hour of sleep is sufficient" days.. lol). Me and Jono finished this 1000 piece jigsaw in 13 hours. We is proud of us, we is! :D
This is Cutie #1 - Ryan. He's the eldest of 4, and a real smarty-pants. Gotta wear glasses though, poor kid.. This is what too much PS2 and computer games does to you.. :P
Brandon! Cutie #2! The Burposaurus! Haha.. That bit's my fault, actually. I told them a story about a kid who kept burping so much he turned into a Burposaurus at Christmas, and til now Brandon-da-man can't stop acting like one. Sigh.
Ooh! This is my little darling Ethan a.ka. Datuk a.k.a Cutie #3! Boy, does this kid have a mouth on him! He'll cheek you no end if you let him.. And more even if you don't! Haha.. He still loves messing up my hair. Naughty boy! He's got one thing in common with his brothers, though - they're all typical Fernandez men: totally NOT morning people! :D
This little rascal is Ashley (Cutie # 4). Or better known as Mak Cik (aunty). She is the master of staring down her nose at someone, and she's not even 3! But when she warms up to you, she's lots of fun to play with AND to talk to, coz you just never know what'll come out of her mouth next! :)
Ah yes. Mak Cik also likes looking at pictures of herself. Which is why there're more of her than of the 3 :)
And finally for the cutie of the week.. *drumroll* Cosmos the Chihuahua (I think my aunt has a sense of humour when it comes to doggie names :P) He's also known as Cos, Cossy, and "thilly dog" :) He's a real scaredy cat (sorry, Cos, I meant dog..) but he's the cutest thing ever! And he loves cuddles and pets. I just love the little tongue sticking out like that.. makes him look even cuter! :)

The Past Month...
At the Jetty.. We didn't spend as much time as we would've liked this year, but it was til worth every second spent there! One of the best places in the world to be, I guarantee!
Finished off our last CNY in Malacca with our once-annual trip to the Renaissance hotel. This is a bit of yee sang tossing - for good luck, apparently :) Don't believe all that, but I gotta admit, it's quite a fun dish, that - if a little sweet. After CNY it was off to work for Aunty J and Uncle F. Wooh. And I thought that work would be easy.. From the above pic, I think you can see it wasn't! Hell, I'm working in Coffee Bean! How much more out of sync can life get? *shudders*
This pic was taken in Decanter.. a restaurant that's on the floor below where we work. If the office was our second home of sorts, Decanter was surely the third! And not just coz of the food either! ;) With waiters like Abu and Floppy, it was worth every extravagant cent.. Hehe *grins wickedly*
The culmination of our 3 weeks of late LATE nights and hard work.. See what we get as a reward? *sighs* Terry called it a "hideous curtain". I guess that says it all! (A low budget airline wouldn't hire us in this!!!)
Finally.. A night out with the Malaysian er.. branch?.. of the Insanely Saners :) I can't believe I hadn't seen them in 3 months! Haha.. Their reaction to my hair was - "OMG Elaine - your hair!" Ya ya.. I know it's gone all strange and blonde-y. Don't have to look so shocked though..
This is us in the Laundry Bar at the Curve, after pigging out in Italiannies, right next door! Hehe.. I was lucky this time 'round - got me a Long Island Tea for free! :) Was great just chilling with the girls. We definitely should do this more often - and next time we'll dance for more than 5 minutes, thanks! ;)
Okay, that's it for now.. I gotta get back to work :)
Love y'all!

Listen...
I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home, in my own home
And I tried and tried
To say whats on my mind
You should have known
Oh,
Now I'm done believin you
You don't know what I'm feelin
I'm more than what, you made of me
I followed the voice
you gave to me
But now I gotta find, my own..

I Can't Make You Love Me
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don't patronize - don't patronize me
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't
I'll close my eyes, then I won't see
The love you don't feel when you're holding me
Morning will come and I'll do what's right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't

Waterworks! :)
You know what my latest phase is? Don't laugh...
I cry every time I see old couples who're still in love *looks sheepish*
I mean, it's just so touching! All around us, we see marriages breaking up after a couple of years..
Then this little old man comes along who's still so in love with his little old lady that his face practically glows when he talks about her, and the adoring look on her face as she gazes up at him... And you think, "what do they have that's so special, it's lasted through all the trials that come with marriage??"
I don't know, to me it's just a testament to the power of love. It can be done, folks.
So why do I cry, if there's hope in the longevity of love?
Probably coz in the deepest corner of my heart I know that someday, when I'm old and ugl(ier) and have pure white hair (if I have any left, that is!), what I would really want is to have the man I love look at me as the darling old man who received an Oscar just now looked at his wife as he thanked her for loving him all these years, just as he loved her.
*sighs dreamily*
All righty folks, I'm gonna go throw away these tissues and then I'll lie down and imagine for a bit that that sorta love will someday be a part of my life forever!

American Idol's Back!!!
Oh, but I am officially a Nick Pedro groupie :) Haha.. Any man with a smile like that, who sings "Now and Forever" (Richard Marx) in such a sweet, sincere tone TOTALLY gets my vote! Haha..
Nicholas Pedro.. Wouldn't say he's my choice for American Idol, but whaddaheck! He's one darned adorable dude! :D I love that dimple!!! Makes him look cuter than ever..! :)
Nick Pedro again....Pity they don't have a pic of him smiling *sniffles*
Here's another cutie - Chris Richardson :) Funny, he was in my dream last night.. Huh. I have the strangest dreams, I think! :P

The Final Trip
*sobs*
I can't believe it ended so quickly. We'd been looking forward to it for ages, and now it's gone in not much more than a blink. There'll be no more after this. I don't think it has sunk in yet, but the next time we go to Malacca, we'll be nothing more than tourists. Gosh, that thought is so sad!!!!! :(
But we did have fun, this last year...
- Cleaning the house like crazy people... I don't think I've ever swept that much dust in my life! But oh well.. anything to make our favourite place in Malacca inhabitable!
- Baking 3 chocolate cakes all by ourselves! (Me, Yin and Ting :D) And it turned out almost as good as my mum's - which was an awesome achievement in itself :P We just need a little more practice to get it right. Whooppee!!
- Celebrated our birthdays (Steph, Sharm and me) with cheese cake [thank GOD it wasn't a jelly cake with a big pink angel on it like last year!] and a couple of drinks at the Portugese settlement nearby. There was an awesome DJ playing there, but no one was dancing! We wanted to, but we were only allowed one drink each, so it wasn't enough to lose THAT much of our inhibitions..! :P
- Had a whole lot of Math tuition classes this year, with Steph and I "donating" most of our um, numbers, to the others until we finished 'em all. Poor us. Taught Sheryll how to count, and ended up donating almost all our numbers to her! How sad is that??
- We had 2 rounds of satay celup this year!!! We figured that since we don't know when we'll be coming to Malacca again, we might as well pig out to the best of our abilities... and we did! I felt like a giant pot of peanut sauce after we finished!
- The trips to the jetty this year were sadly few... But we managed to catch the sunset on the last day there... and it was absolutely beautiful as usual. [Only thing missing for me was this really hot dude, whom I happen to be totally in love with :)]
- We missed the sunrise this year, though... We actually woke up in time for it the first time, but had to leave before it was even bright coz it rained and there was lightning, and we were smack in the middle of the open sea! The second time, none of us managed to wake up in time... Sigh. That was SUCH a waste.
- We also had one last Chinese New Year meal at the Renaissance hotel for old times' sake. It always used to be a tradition for us when my grandparents were alive, but we haven't had it in awhile, so my aunt and uncle from Singapore decided to give as one last treat there... [Thanks Aunty Maureen and Uncle Richard! It meant a lot... Especially since we know that it wasn't a cheap treat by any means!]
I'll miss Malacca. I'm more than sure of it... We had a lot of fun, as we always do, much more than just the stuff I've listed above...I don't know what else to say, other than I am truly sorry that this part of our history will now be nothing more than a very treasured memory.

:'(
I don't regret one day of it, but it's times like this when I can't help but wish that the distance wasn't quite THAT great.
From the shop I work in, I can see couples everywhere, walking around hand in hand - today much more so than usual. That IS expected, of course, but it just serves to make me even more aware of the fact that the man I love is so far away, lately in almost all ways.
I wish I wasn't such a sentimental fool. Then maybe I wouldn't be in danger of bursting into tears right here in my workplace, as the sounds of my colleague laughing on the phone with her boyfriend just barely reach me from the back of the shop.
I miss him so much it hurts.
What If...
"Imagine how you would feel if your doctor today diagnosed you with a terminal illness and gave you say, two months to live. Abandoning all pretences, all facades, all the acts that we have perfected in our time, how would you really evaluate your life? What would you hold to be the things that were really important to you?"
How many people actually think about stuff like that? It's not something most people want to think about, let alone discuss - heck, for some members of the Chinese community, it's considered taboo to even tell someone how you want your funeral run!
But why are we so afraid to break our lives down to size? Is it because at this point where none of us know when the end is, we're afraid that facing whatever short-comings we have will either force us to change, or make us feel exceedingly guilty if we don't?
Or is it because it's easier to live life clinging to the bliss of ignorance, not only about the world outside our little cocoon, but of ourselves too as people? There's always a possibility we may not like what we see....
I thought about that and I found that what I would regret the most is not having the relationship with God that I most certainly have the capacity for, because I once had it, but now am just too lazy and caught up in my own life sometimes to even think about it. I think it's time for me to do something about that.. 20 is a good time as any to start again.
If I could change one thing, it'd the fact that my quick temper and sometimes caustic tongue has hurt probably more people than I'll ever know. I hate to admit it, but I know that I can be really mean sometimes, and more often than not, the people I love most are on the receiving end of it, and it's not something I'm proud of at all.
But that said, what I hold to be important has never, and hopefully will never, change. My life more or less revolves 'round the people I love - I suppose, this blog is a pretty good testament to that.
And I treasure them more than anything else I've ever had or known, even if I sometimes have a lousy way of showing it. My hope would be that I could, at the very least, say that the people I love know that I do. And to me, that's what counts the most.
When I die, I want to leave behind good memories - those are the things I know I would treasure the most, were the roles reversed. If knowing I loved them could've made just one person happy, then I know my life's been worth something.
And I suppose at the end of the day, that's what all of us really want, isn't it?

Have You Ever Been In Love?
Half awake and half asleep
Have you ever laid there thinking
Was it all a dream?
But you reach out and she's there
Every moment, everywhere
Have you ever been in love?
Have you ever felt
How far a heart can fall
Have you ever stayed up waiting
For a telephone call
Just to hear her say hello
Cause you miss each other so
Have you ever been in love?
Have there been times to laugh
And times you really want to cry
Finding reasons to believe her
cause you'd die a little if she lied
And when in times of doubt
Have you ever tried to work it out
But still she leaves you wondering
What it's all about
And when she's far away
Have you ever felt the need to stray
And tried and then discovered
It just doesn't pay
Cause with her, you can be true
And with her, you can be you
Have you ever been in love?
Have there been times to laugh
And times you really want to cry
Finding reasons to believe her
Cause you'd die a little if she lied
And when in times of doubt
Have you ever tried to work it out
But still she leaves you wondering
What its all about
And when the night comes down
Can you call your house a home
Do you dream you're still together
And wake up alone
Have you ever been in love
The way that I'm in love
Have you ever been in love?
Have you ever been in love?

V-Day Cometh
The happiness of another person
Is essential to your own.
~ by Robert A. Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land ~
I know loads of people don't subscribe to the idea of Valentine's Day, and I can't say that I blame them - prices are hiked up, it's almost impossible to find a nice restaurant that isn't already fully booked, and it's - to put it mildly - too much of a hassle.
But if the above quote is to be believed, then maybe all the hassle of Valentine's Day is worth it. If only to see the happiness in the eyes of the person you love. You don't really have to do much - just something thoughtful would cut it for most people..
And really, what better way to show you love someone than to do something memorable for them, for both of you? Something that you can look back on in the future and smile because it was THAT special.
If you don't want to buy into the commercialism of Valentine's Day, good for you. But if you haven't let the person you love know how much you love them lately, this'll be a good time to do it - especially if they're not expecting it!
Sometimes it doesn't take much more than a little time and ingenuity to make the person you love happier than they've ever been :)

The Last New Year..
This'll be our last year in Malacca, since both our grandparents are gone... The aunties and uncles have decided that they'll sell the house this year, after 2 years of postponing it mainly due to a lot of pleading and whining on our part.
I can't imagine a CNY that's not in Malacca. We've been celebrating it there since I was born! That's 20 years of tradition, folks! Now I can understand a little of why older people have such a hard time adapting to change.. It isn't easy at all, having to get used to something new...
And none of us know what we'll do next year. There're are lots of suggestions about what to do and where to go, but I know one thing for sure - it won't ever be the same again!
Everyone goes back to Malacca - EVERYONE. But a lot of the time, it's coz it's like an obligation.. on the part of the older generation, at least. So if we go somewhere else, there's no guarantee that all of them will join us - in fact, I'm pretty sure some would end up making their own plans and skipping the family gathering, if not entirely, then just showing up for a day and that'd be it.
And crazy as it sounds, I'll miss the experience of having 20 people live in a tiny single storey house, with only one toilet and one bathroom. It's always crowded and noisy, with things all over the place, but it all feels.. right. And God knows, when you live in such close proximity to each other it's bound to make you closer. And it has! It really has.
I'll miss the short walks we used to take in the mornings and evenings to the jetty just behind our grandparents' house. And I'll definitely miss watching the sun come up over the calm sea, and setting with the in-coming tide. We had such fun on the jetty... It's a pity we only discovered it 3 years ago!
We probably will be going back to Malacca again, but not to the same house where years and years of memories linger. We won't be doing the same things, or feeling the same way. I can't help but think that it's such a pity....
With the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations, the last link to our roots will be gone.

Eye-opener
I was scared as hell, because I knew it wasn't going to be easy. And for awhile I was afraid I couldn't handle it..
But you know what?
Sure, they have short attention spans. Sure, it takes ages to just get a response out of them. Sure, some have ADHD and require lots of supervision and stern "no!"s.
But when I looked at them, I didn't see all those short-comings, much as I worried that I would. All I could see were 5 little boys, whose innocence made them all that much more endearing. And every little accomplishment, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant, was a joy in itself.
I can't wait to continue.. Those kids give us so much more than we give them, if only we could see beyond the disabilities and into strong little characters who keep on trying, even when it's sometimes excrutiatingly difficult for them to do so.

More Lim-Cuz Craziness
Sharm, Steph, Yin and I cooked up this meal during our latest sleepover... Potato salad and chicken arrabiatta spaghetti :) [Oh, and David checked on the spaghetti TWICE *applause*] Looks pretty good, doesn't it? Taking into account the fact that we ARE amateurs, of course ;)
Followed that up with a um.. a photo session, in which we were s'posed to be playing Twister. Lol.. Does it look like we are? :)

Mm..
Were it ever so airy a tread,
My heart would hear her and beat,
Were it earth in an earthy bed,
My dust would hear her and beat,
Had I lain for a century dead;
Would start and tremble under her feet,
And blossom in purple and red.
- Lord Tennyson
(And no, Dav.. I just like this a lot. Nothing more!)

Uh oh.
Oh lord. I'm turning 20 this year! That's insane, people! Where on earth did all that time go? And I can tell you one thing for sure.. I sure don't feel 20. More like 13, sometimes. How do people adapt to growing up? It scares the hell out of me.
But oh well. 2006 is finally over. That can only be a good thing, right?
Sharm, Steph, Yin and I cooked dinner yesterday (David just peeked into the pot a couple of times to "check on the spaghetti".. Lol.) For a bunch of rookies in the kitchen, we did a hell of a good job, if I do say so myself! And if my word isn't enough, the fact that everything - the big bowl of potato salad, an entire box of spaghetti, and all the sauce - was finished before 11 p.m. is telling enough ;)
Next time 'round, we'll be trying the next on our list of favourite eats - Nyonya food! Although THAT is friggin' ambitions, but... We can do it, I know we can!
Goodbye now, I need to go and let the bro come on.
PS to my darling Wino: Here's hoping it'll be a great year for us.. I love you.

Love Of My Life
When I look at you
I see you smiling back at me
It's like all my dreams come true
I am afraid
If I lost you (girl)
I'd fall through the cracks
And lose my track in this crazy lonely world
Sometimes it's so hard to believe
When the nights can be so long
And faith gave me the strength
And kept me going on
You are the love of my life
And I'm so glad you found me
You are the love of my life
Baby put your arms around me
I guess this is how it feels
When you finally find something real
My angel in the night
You are my love
The love of my life
Now here you are
With midnight closing in
You take my hand as our shadows dance
With moonlight on your skin
I look in your eyes
I'm lost inside your kiss
I think if I'd never met you
About all the things I'd missed
Sometimes it's so hard to believe
When a love can be so strong
And faith gave me the strength
And kept me holding on
You are the love of my life
And I'm so glad you found me
You are the love of my life
Baby put your arms around me
I guess this is how it feels
When you finally find something real
My angel in the night
You are my love
The love of my life

Cuzzies!

I was just going through some of the pictures of my cousins, it suddenly struck me again that I love the lot of them to bits! I really do... Nearly all the best times in my life have been experienced with them, right there in the thick of it all. They've given me my best memories... There is no possible way that I could EVER forget just how much they mean to me!
Vin, Su, Yin, Ting, Sheryll, Jono...
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!

Thank You, Jesus!
I PASSED MY GRADE EIGHT PIANO EXAM!!!!!!!!!!!
WooohoOoOOo!!!
I don't have to learn a whole new bunch of excruciatingly difficult pieces, and I can just lepak next year! (At least when it comes to the piano...)
I just know one thing for sure... I didn't do this on my own. I have the God who, inexplicably, seems to come through for me every time, to thank.
As usual, I don't expect to get anything based on my performance, but He throws me a curveball every time and lets me know that even if everyone else fails me (including myself), He's always there.. and He won't ever let me down.
So yes... A very big THANK YOU to my Lord and Saviour, for never giving up on me, and being there for me when no one else is. Even those who say they love me.
Would NEVER have been able to pass without you.
Thank you, Jesus!

O Christmas, Wherefore Art Thou?
Somehow, this time, it feels just like any other weekend of any other month. There isn't that tingle of excitement I always get whenever Christmas is 'round the corner.
Sandy was right in a way.... As we get older, we get so caught up in the technicalities of Christmas (buying, baking, cooking..) that we actually forget to enjoy the season and it becomes just another bit of work to do.
I used to enjoy decorating the house. Now it feels more like housework. Or maybe that's coz if Yin hadn't been here, I'd have been doing the decorating alone. Which, frankly, isn't how the other Christmases used to be.
My tree now is pretty well decorated (if a little senget .. lol), but it doesn't have the charm of the trees that David and I used to painstakingly decorate as kids. Those trees were a mishmash of the oddest coloured decorations and moulting Santas, but there was a whole lot of enthusiasm behind 'em, and somehow the tree took on the sense of that and came alive!
Oh I know that sounds absurd, but to me, if everyone pitches in at Christmas, and we work together to bring in the season, then it becomes all that much better. Doing it alone somehow just makes it dull, lifeless almost.
I just want Christmas to have that spark again, that feeling of wide-eyed wonder. I miss it so much, that child-like anticipation while waiting for midnight on Christmas day.
All my life I've wanted to grow up - now that I have, I wish it hadn't happened so fast.

*sighs*
*smacks self on head*
Why do I allow myself to give in to these negative feelings anyway? No matter how I remind myself of certain things, I can't help but feel like I'm fighting a losing battle...
But 10 minutes later I perk up again and become all optimistic.
Sigh.
I should be WAY past (or still a loooong way from) the age where such crazy mood swings are a common part of life. But god.. sometimes it's hard not to doubt my sanity. Like, why do I do this to myself?
In my head I understand there are reasons.
My heart, however, is terrified beyond belief that it's being set up to being broken again.
Even if that isn't true, it's a hard feeling to get over. I'm trying though, I really am.
Maybe I've just got to try a little harder.

It's OVER!!!!!!!!!!
Sigh.
Ooh. Don't get me wrong, I'm thoroughly enjoying every second. Sleeping in, watching TV, reading all my hopelessly fluff-y, but completely entertaining collection of mindless romance novels.. And best of all - DUMPING MY SCHOOL BOOKS!!!! :D
WoooOooOohOoooO!
Okay, so I didn't exactly dump them. I packed 'em up. To give 'em to people whom I hope will make better use of them than I did. Actually, who'll make use of them, period. Hehe.
The funny thing is, I don't feel the same kind of nostalgia I did when I finished Form 5. Oh, I miss my friends, all right.. But I think it has more to do with the fact that I had absolutely no interest in the subjects I was learning. So finishing these exams were more of an un-loaded burden than anything else. It's hard to feel nostalgic about something you loathed, I guess.
No real after STPM list.. Except, maybe to:
1. Enjoy myself as much as I possibly can
2. Bake some cookies
3. Watch Gerard Butler in action as soon as The Game Of Our Lives hits the cinemas (old addictions die hard, I guess... hehe)
4. Figure out exactly what I'm gonna be sending Sandy (bit of a dilemma here coz I want it to be special!)
5. Have sleepovers with the Insanely Saners and Lim cousins. On separate days, o'course!
6. Catch up with Ee May. Haven't seen her in months.. Not a cool thing to happen, I assure you!
7. Get a job in a kindy in January! Can't wait for that one, either! :)
Okay, that's about the extent of my list at the moment. Pretty short, eh? There was so much more that I wanted to do after SPM.. Now, it just doesn't seem to matter anymore that I don't have all that much to do. In fact, it feels awesome!!! :)
All righty then! I shall leave before I write a novel.
Have a good one, you guys!

Thank God I Found You!
I think this song says a lot of what I can't always find the words for.. Y'know my penchant for digging up lyrics, don't ya, Mr. C? ;) I only put up the chorus coz it really all boils down to this.. And I think you know what I mean :)
[You can tease me about it later, but I just had to do this :P My god, I can't believe I just gave you permission to make fun of me! *shakes head sadly at self* Girl, you're goin' nutsier everyday!]
Okay, I'll stop now.
Anyway, Sandy.. This is for you.
Thank God I found you
I was lost without you
My every wish and every dream
Somehow became reality
When you brought the sunlight
Completed my whole life
I'm overwhelmed with gratitude
Cause baby I'm so thankful
I found you

Another I.S. Birthday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNA!! The Queen is officially 19, everybody! Three cheers for Jen Jen!
I hope you had a great day, girl.. Your present's on the way, and if it's possible, I'll take you out soon for a lil food binge and a long chat, aye? ;)
I love you, girlie! And I know loads of people out there do, too!
Have an awesome year, okay? I know you will.. Somehow!
*BIG HUGS* Toodles, darling.. See you soon!
Eyeing the Storm
The crash of the rolling thunder, the streaking of lightning across the sky, the sound and smell of the falling rain...
I could just sit by the window and look out at it for hours.
There's just something so majestic yet surprisingly peaceful about a thunderstorm. It clears my head, makes me feel comforted that there are still some things in this world whose beauty man cannot sully. Nothing can shatter the truly spectacular wonder of a storm.
And if the lightning these days wasn't so dangerous, I would be out there, dancing in the rain. Believe me, there is nothing so cleansing, or so freeing.
If only I could be out there... I wish I could.

An Old Questionnaire..
Describe yourself in three words:
Crazy reclusive dreamer :)
Bad habit:
Thinking too much about things I can't change.
Rule of Life:
If you want something done well, do it yourself. I've had waaay too much experience with people doing stuff sloppily coz they just can't be bothered. I hate that!
Phrase that you use often:
Oh my lord in heaven!!!
If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?
A horse! Haha.. Coz my dad says I look like one when I run. Sigh. Is that a compliment, folks? Is it? Hah. Didn't think so.
Dream house:
Someplace quiet, surrounded by lots of trees.. It doesn't have to be big. Just really cozy. Nothing like the modern, glass and steel houses these days. I prefer the old-fashioned, woodsy types.
Most embarrassing moment:
EXPO 2001!!! Haha.. How the hell does one win a singing competition with a song like "I Cry"? *shakes head sadly* But I don't regret it.. it was quite an experience!
Rule of Love:
Hold nothing back. There is no point loving if you can't love with all your heart. The one you love deserves at least that much!
What would you most like people to know about you?
That I AM NOT SCARY! *growls* Haha. I'm really not. I'm actually really shy... That's why I don't mix too well with people I don't know. Honest!
How would your mum and dad describe you?
They call me "Chip" - y'know, the little teacup in Disney's Beauty and the Beast? Apparently I always seem to want to know what's going on! Hehe..
What's your earliest childhood memory?
Running away from home when I was 3! Three! Lol. I still have no clue how I came up with THAT idea, but I really did pack my little bag and walk out. 'Course, I couldn't go far.. coz I didn't know how to cross the road! :)
Are you a good judge of character?
I think so.. most of the time, anyway.
Are you romantic?
Oh, totally. But only with the right person.
What do you look for in a boyfriend?
You want the full list? Haha.. I thought not. Basically just that he loves me... I believe that if he does, he'll naturally be loyal, understanding, respect me, the whole nine yards.
What do you think of your singing abilities?
I can keep a tune. That's about the kindest thing I can say.
How good-looking do you think you are?
Oh I'm gorgeous! Heehee. I'm okay la.. Not ugly, but no supermodel either! (Could lose some weight though.. Sigh.)
Who was the last person you hugged?
My mummy! :)
What makes you smile?
My little cousins, talking to the IS-ers and my cousins, certain memories, daydreaming about a certain someone.. :)
When did you last bawl your eyes out?
Um.. Wednesday night? Lol. I seem to be "bawling my eyes out" a lot these days. Stress wei!
When did you learn about the birds and the bees?
I can't remember. In fact, I don't even remember HOW I found everything out!
Describe your bedroom.
It's big and bright, got a queen-sized bed, loads of space, all table tops and shelf tops are covered with books and notes, and I have the messiest dressing table in the history of mankind.
What's your most treasured possession?
My photo albums. They're full of very precious memories!
What do you worry about the most?
Exams!!!! And how I'm gonna get permission to travel someday...
When did you last totally lose your temper?
Wow. Um.. Quite some time ago. I get angry, but I haven't "totally" lost my temper in ages. Yay me!
What's your idea of a romantic evening?
A picnic on a deserted beach, just the two of us, then lying in each others arms while watching the sunset and listening to the waves. Top it off with a slow dance under the moonlight to the sound of the waves and him singing in my ear.. *sighs dreamily* Well, a girl can dream! :)

When You Say You Love Me
Like the sound of silence calling,
I hear your voice and suddenly
I'm falling, lost in a dream.
Like the echoes of our souls are meeting,
You say those words and my heart stops beating.
I wonder what it means.
What could it be that comes over me?
At times I can't move.
At times I can hardly breath.
When you say you love me
The world goes still, so still inside and
When you say you love me
For a moment, there's no one else alive
You're the one I've always thought of.
I don't know how, but I feel sheltered in your love.
You're where I belong.
And when you're with me if I close my eyes,
There are times I swear I feel like I can fly
For a moment in time.
Somewhere between the Heavens and Earth ,
And frozen in time, Oh when you say those words.
When you say you love me
The world goes still, so still inside and
When you say you love me
For a moment, there's no one else alive
And this journey that we're on.
How far we've come and I celebrate every moment.
And when you say you love me,
That's all you have to say.
I'll always feel this way.
When you say you love me
The world goes still, so still inside and
When you say you love me
In that moment, I know why I'm alive
When you say you love me.
When you say you love me.
Do you know how I love you?

"I Want A Doggy!!!"*
After spending time with Hugo the Gorgeous Golden Retriever today, I have made a decision:
I AM GONNA GET MYSELF A DOG!
Either a Lab or Golden Retriever.
Heck, I've always wanted one. Ever since I could talk. (I wanted a horse once, too.. but a terrace house is a tad impractical for horse rearing. Sigh. Blame it on Enid Blyton!!!!)
Unfortunately, I'll have to wait til I get a place of my own. Sigh. Coz fur aggravates my dad's asthma, and I can't have one at my aunt's place coz she has two chihuahuas. Who seem to think they're the size of St. Bernards, the way they act around bigger dogs. That is, until the dog in question decides to attack. Hehe.
Yeah, so all things considered, I'll have to wait a few more years before I can get myself my own dog. Argh! You'd think 19 years was a long enough wait. Sigh.
Oh well. All I can hope for now is that, if I ever get married, the guy will like dogs, be non-asthmatic, and have no dog-related allergies.
Phew.
Well, here's hoping!

Success..
YOU ARE A SUCCESS..
* WHEN you clearly understand that failure is an event, not a person - that yesterday ended last night, and today is a brand new day.
* WHEN you know that a success (a win) doesn't make you and that a failure (a loss) doesn't break you.
* WHEN you have made friends with your past, are focused on the present, and are optimistic about your future.
* WHEN you are filled with faith, hope, and love and live without anger, greed, guilt, envy, or thoughts of revenge.
* WHEN you are mature enough to delay gratification and shift your focus from your rights to your responsibilities.
* WHEN you know that failure to stand for what is morally right is the prelude to becoming a victim of what is criminally wrong.
YOU ARE A SUCCESS...
* WHEN you are secure in who you are, so you are at peace with your Creator and in fellowship with others.
* WHEN you have made friends of your adversaries and have gained the love and respect of those who know you best.
* WHEN you understand that others can give you pleasure but that genuine happiness comes when you do things for others.
* WHEN you give hope to the hopeless, love to the unlovable, and are pleasant to the grouch, courteous to the rude, and generous to the needy.
* WHEN you can look back in forgiveness, forward in hope, down in compassion, and up with gratitude.
* WHEN you know that the greatest are those who choose to be servants of all.
* WHEN you recognize, confess, develop, and use your given physical, mental, and spiritual abilities for the benefit of others.
YOU ARE A SUCCESS when you know that you have been a good and faithful servant of the Creator of the universe.
Frus-nya!! :(
Sigh.
Could it also be that what I'm feeling cannot be described adequately? I've been searching and searching for a way to put it all down. It's frustrating feeling a certain way and not ever being able to describe it!
At least, it's frustrating to me. I always prided myself on my ability to express myself through my writing. Now.. Wooh. I seem to have lost THAT ability, along with quite a number of significant ones. Like the fact that my "memory of an elephant" has metamorphosised into the memory of good ol' Dory.
Double triple quadruple sigh.
On the bright side, though, what I'm feeling isn't negative. (If you ignore the frustration it creates.) For the first time in a long long time I'm not unhappy. Nor am I indifferent. I'm actually feeling HAPPY.
It's a good feeling, folks. That's why I'm so anxious to capture it. So that one day, when I'm feeling down, I can go back and read it and know that it's not impossible to feel true happiness. That it isn't some illusion I created in my head. Memories can be deceiving - that's why having tangible proof that I could feel like this is so important to me.
I don't ever want to forget.
